Blogging in itself can be a lucrative practice, but only if you properly setup the blog.
Make of those new to making blogs create general blogs. These are blogs that take one general topic, like healthcare, and write general posts about it.
While a general blog has the potential to be successful, a niche blog has a much higher potential.
1. Niche blogging is much more organized
For example, take the general healthcare blog mentioned above.
The posts will be all over the place. One post will be about insurance, another will be about new technology and so on.
A general blog has no direction.
A niche blog gives you a clear focus.
You are going to blog about healthcare for elderly amputees. Every post will be about this topic, which makes it very organized.
2. Niche blog gives you an expert status
General blogging only allows you to scratch the surface of a topic because you will be spending too much time trying to blog about everything.
A niche blog gives you the time to really dig into a certain subject.
3. Better advertising
Contextual ads, which are commonly used to monetize a blog, respond to the keywords in your blog.
A general blog has too wide an array of keywords. This leads to disorganized advertising, which also leads to lower earnings.
Niche blogging tends to have more organized advertising that really gets at the heart of your blog.
The general blog can have all sorts of advertisements, but the niche blog will have specific advertisements that will interest your readers.
4. Easier SEO
Ranking for keywords is often easier with a niche blog. This isn’t because a niche blog is particularly better at SEO.
You can rank for the same keywords regardless of using a general or a niche blog. The benefit a niche blog has here is focus.
A general blog uses a lot of keywords. Consequently, the blogger cannot really maximize the huge list of keywords being used.
A niche blog uses much less keywords, so you have more time to devote to them. This makes it easier for the niche blog to rank for keywords.
5. It is easier to build a community around a niche blog
It is easier to build a community around a niche blog due to its organization and your expert status.
You are an expert in the eyes of your loyal readers, and people always have questions for experts. You can easily turn these questions into new posts, and you will increase your reader’s loyalty by speaking with them.
The organization of the niche blog also draws in a better community.
Instead of having disorganized interests and conversations, everyone is there to learn about one topic. This makes it easier for everyone to mesh together, and it leads to a better sense of belonging.
Conclusion
While general blogs have their own benefits, a niche blog is the way to go if you are starting out or don’t have the time, money and resources to make a giant blog that answers all of life’s questions.
Try it out!

That was a very good explanation of why niche blogging is better and probably more efficient than general blogging. I tend to kind of go all over the place with my blogging, but for the most part I try to stick to my blog’s main topic and I think that helps. Sometimes when I blog about other things that aren’t exactly related help my loyal readers get to know a different side about me and learn something that they wouldn’t at another similar blog.

Thanks Lisha for your comment. I’ve been thinking to write some other topics, maybe something from my personal life.
It’s good you mentioned it.

An interesting blog Dragan and one whose sentiments I do agree with.

I’m glad you find it interesting Michael.

I found this article interesting and helpful in understanding niche blogging. Lately I have been “Auto Blogging” and adding pages to those blogs on products from the marketplaces in order to monetize. I can’t get Adsense any more, so I use Amazon and other products.

Hi Sandra,
I don’t know if you have a blog but if not I strongly suggest to create one. Nothing attracts more audience and potentially buyers than content marketing which in your case can be reviews on products you want to sell. I don’t think “Auto Blogging” is a good idea, which btw I don’t know what even means :-?. More about content marketing and how it can work for you will be in my next post.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Best, Dragan

Hi Dragan, I love this article. My blog is not quite a niche blog in that it’s focused on one particular item. Rather, it’s a niche blog on writing for the web, and approaches it from several different points. I like to focus on one category at a time and then build it out from there. In the meantime, I am just happy to be going over 100 posts soon, lol! Thanks for sharing this information and feel free to check out my page at http://www.misswordy.com! 🙂

Hi Valerie,
I really like your writing tips, miss wordy ;).
You’re are doing absolutely the right thing when focusing on one particular item but from different angles.
That makes you different and unique.

Niche blogging is always the right choice for a blogger that intends to earn income blogging. Unless you just want a place to express yourself.
I agree with your points.
