It’s a strange thing in life.
You decided to take a journey to your favorite destination. During that journey you see some other beautiful and worth visiting places.
Wouldn’t be great to change my route, you think?
What an adventure would it be that after a halfway You change your final destination?
You obviously will enjoy it, but what about the others?
It greately depends what others will say, whether they like it or not.
So what all this story got with your business
You see, your business isn’t for yourself it’s for your customers and clients. It’s them you’re selling your products/services.
Your final destination, main goal is to sell more products, gain more clients etc.
But to get there, you have to be on a right route.
When I started DomainsFlow, 2 years ago, my main goal was selling domain names and webhosting.
I made a couple of reviews on a reputable domain and webhosting providers. Then I expected to earn some money.
But the only thing I earned was disappointment.
What happened to my (first) journey?
It took me a while to realize I was traveling alone. I didn’t have a minimum viable audience, nobody was commenting my posts.
Without any feedback I didn’t know what to think.
To put it simple I was lost.
Even before you start selling your products you must have an audience. These are people interested in your products or services and eventually they might buy.
How to attract people?
First, you have to appeal their attention.
Let me give you one example of my friend who installs aluminum and plastic doors and windows (turned to be very successful in his business).
Since we live in a city by the sea, the problems with wooden windows is that you need to repaint’em every two years because of the salt in the air.
Now, most people find it difficult to maintenance especially the elders.
In order to convince people to buy, he simply explains the benefits of changing wooden into plastic windows such as:
- no maintenance,
- better thermal insolation,
- better sound insolation,
- lower energy costs …
By showing some real cost-benefits facts he’s becoming more closer to their problems and needs.
Giving-Receiving Game
If you want to receive something, you have to give something first.
Remember, you’re giving a valuable informations making people more interested in your products/services.
In online business it seems to be working very well to give something free like report, ebook, video tutorial… in change for email address.
When people give their email address they’re already interested in what you have to offer. You just made one step closer to your potential buyer.
In this giving-receiving game there mustn’t be a losers.
On the contrary, it must be a win-win combination. If your product isn’t at least as good as you described it, you will lose your credibility.
I’m sure this is something you don’t want in your business.
Do you feel like you have turned off the road to your (business) success? What do you do to get back on track?
Let us know about it in the comments.
I think for me, I am really interested in too many things and I don’t have time for anything. I try to shut out any ideas that I don’t think will work. If I don’t think they will work, they probably won’t. Since there are things I think will work, I try those first. But still my problem is always too many interests 🙂 If my business was a road trip, I’d be all over the map, lol!
Thanks for putting things into perspective for me. A good reminder 🙂

I completely understand you Lisha. The same goes for me. If possible I’d be doing 3 things at the same time.
It happened to me that I promised something to do but just didn’t have time. Now I make my priorities first.
When I look back, my journey is on wriggly road :).
