A month ago started Turkish TV drama Suleiman the Magnificent and immediately became the most watched serial in Croatia.
Now, I’m not a fan of soaps, even more for me it’s generally a waste of time.
But in this particular case something has attracted me so now I don’t miss any episode. Even more, we talk about it at work and if someone has missed something … well it’s like a dissaster.
I know it’s silly but…
But what makes Suleiman the Magnificent so magnetic to the audience?
Based on what I hear people talk about, I find these five elements important for making your online content more effective .
1. Well researched topic
It’s less known that the screenwriter of Suleiman the Magnificent Meral Okay spent three years reading over 10000 official documents related to that fascinating time of the European history.
She was known (died on April, 2012 at the age of 53) and valued by her devoted background research figures and other relevant facts before the creation of the series.
By writing well researched topics you’re establishing yourself as an expert and credible source of informations.
Your content marketing focus has to be on the things your audience cares about. And those are the topics you want to rank well for, right?
In order to effectively communicate with an audience, you must learn how the audience speaks.
Remember, well researched topic is what your audience recognize and keep coming back for more.
2. Intrigue
People have always been attracted to the drama and intrigue. It’s an essential element in all series and soaps.
Sultan Suleiman was a powerful ruler on three continents and had four sons. Watching the drama daily, we can see mix of romance, political, family and military intrigue.
So what’s intrigue got to do with your online content?
Well, putting your business online is intriguing in itself.
I know some of my friends look at me suspiciously when I say I do blogging and writing online. This is something mysteriously and intriguing when people aren’t familiar with what can make money and success.
So if you’re already online with your business – don’t worry intrigue is already incorporated. And don’t forget, intrigue attracts the audience.
3. Selfishness
Before I go further you must be aware that selfishness is one of the 7 deadly sins of blogging. And it has been a deadly sin in the time of Sultan Suleiman too.
We’ve already seen in one epizode that he killed his brother-in-law Ferhat Pasha because of selfishness and people extortion. The same fate will hit his second brother-in-law and his right hand Ibrahim Pasha.
Now, there is absolutely no room for being selfish in online business. Quite the opposite.
Remember, if what you give is valuable enough, it will attract lots and lots of people.
4. Compelling story
It’s a story about the life and reign one of the greatest Ottoman invaders. Set in 16th century, when Suleiman succeeds his father as ruler of the Ottoman Empire and traces his life as a son, husband, father, lover, the great warrior and famous Ottoman ruler.
His favorite hobby we could say were the women! He had a 300, with a special emphasis on the relationship with the young Alexandra, who was trapped in the Ottoman harem.
Now, telling a story is one thing, but it has to be good one as well. Otherwise, at best it doesn’t resonate with the potential customers, at worst it becomes awkward.
If you present things properly, if you go further than the specs, they will stick in your mind. You just get it.
5. Great design
Suleiman the Magnificent is the most expensive, most luxurous and most watched Turkish series of all time.
As history would become a realty in all its glory, it’s spent more than $3.5 million in the film set consctruction.
Given that at the Topkapi Palace which was the center of the Ottoman Empire nearly 400 years, wasn’t allowed to shoot, producers were forced to build a replica worth almost $2 million.
It’s been constructed for a year and covers 4000 square meters, because they faithfully designed all rooms like in the original palace.
We can’t deny we’re all attracted and impressed when something is beautifully designed.

Let’s discuss about it in the comments …
Fascinating blog! Is your theme custom made
or did you download it from somewhere? A design like yours with a few simple tweeks would really make my blog stand out.
Please let me know where you got your theme. Appreciate it
My blog is using the eleven40 theme by StudioPress. Basically, it’s already pre-made and I added some staff like landing and portolio pages. I like the simple and clean design.
Thanks Margert, appreciate your comment.
